A Man Who Could Have Kept Driving

In the rush of a busy morning, it is easy to assume someone else will stop.

On his way to work, Jitendra saw a wrecked scooter and an injured couple stranded on the road as traffic rushed past. Initially, he also drove on, assuming someone else would help.

He admitted this quietly while narrating this story, not out of shame, but because he understood how easily we expect others to act.

But the scene stayed with him. He turned back. He stopped an autorickshaw, and took them to a government hospital.

For many, that would have been where the help ended, Jitendra stayed. He gave a witness statement, registered an FIR, and stood his ground despite pressure and intimidation from the accused to retract.

Jitendra is a quiet, soft-spoken man who avoids fuss, yet he possesses a rare capacity for doing what is right. Sometimes the quietest people have the greatest capacity to do what is uncomfortable.
